Why Visit Protaras

Protaras stands on ancient Lefkolla, referenced in medieval chronicles. The hilltop Church of Profitis Elias, built in the 1980s on a former chapel site, offers coastal views after 300+ steps. Near Cape Greco, cave dwellings and Bronze Age remains show what is Protaras famous for beyond beaches.

Cape Greco National Forest Park offers incredible natural beauty, with sea caves and cliff formations. Walk the 10 km coastal promenade from Pernera to Fig Tree Bay. Sunset boat trips to the Sea Caves are among the top attractions in Protaras, a local secret for photographers.

For culinary delights, visiting Protaras means savoring fresh seafood. Look for "mezedes" at a traditional taverna, offering small, diverse dishes. Try the local "ofto kleftiko" cooked in a clay oven; it's a slow-cooked lamb specialty locals cherish, not just a tourist dish.

Perfect spot for a beach holiday

Fig Tree Bay is just gorgeous - the water is so clear and calm, great for kids too. The beach never felt too crowded in the mornings. Food nearby is decent and pretty affordable.

Great value summer escape

We stayed close to Kapparis and it was such a good call. Quieter than the main strips, nice local tavernas, and the sea was absolutely stunning. Cyprus food is something else - the halloumi alone is worth the trip. Really enjoyed every bit of it.

Loved every second of it

The sea at Cape Greco was unreal - crystal clear and so blue it almost looks fake. Snorkeling there was brilliant. The whole coastline around Protaras is just stunning. Prices were fair, locals super friendly. One of the best beach breaks I've had in years.

Excellent family holiday destination

Took the kids and they had an absolute blast. The beaches are shallow and safe, the resort is clean and easy to get around. Windmill Street has a good range of places to eat for fussy eaters. Not one bad day the whole time we were there.

So much better than I expected

Came mostly for the sun and the sea, but there's actually more to do than I thought. Rented a quad bike and explored the Cape Greco national park - totally worth it. Fresh grilled fish by the water every evening was a highlight. Great mix of relaxation and activities.

Warmth, sea and meze - what else do you need?

December in Protaras still feels warm compared to back home. The beaches were quiet, which I loved. Tried a full Cypriot meze spread at a local place and it was incredible - so many dishes, all delicious. A really relaxed trip with zero stress.
